Colonoscopy and cystoscopy waits over six weeks rise at RUH

By Hey Bath Newsdesk Published

In short

People waiting for a colonoscopy or cystoscopy at the RUH face longer waits than a year ago, even as the overall diagnostic backlog fell.

At the RUH, 30.2% of patients waiting for a colonoscopy had waited more than six weeks in August 2026. A year earlier, the figure was 9.1%.

Cystoscopy waits over six weeks rose to 16.7% from 3.3%. DEXA scans rose to 23.2% from 7.2%. Gastroscopy rose to 24.5% from 10.9%.

Overall, the share of RUH diagnostic patients waiting more than six weeks fell to 14.5% from 34.8%. The diagnostic waiting list fell to 8,600. That is the lowest of the 24 monthly figures, which range from 8,600 to 12,268.

The figures show the share of patients waiting more than six weeks for each test. They also show the size of the overall diagnostic waiting list at the RUH. They do not say how long any one patient waited, or what lies behind the change in each test.
